My laptop is getting really slow lately. Can anyone suggest practical ways to speed it up without buying new hardware or reinstalling Windows from scratch?
I used to face the same issue until I disabled startup programs through Task Manager. Now, my PC boots faster, and overall performance has improved without needing to reinstall anything.
Cleaning junk files using Storage Sense and clearing browser cache made my laptop noticeably faster. I also uninstall apps I haven’t used in months. It’s a simple fix that works well.
What helped me most was switching to a lightweight antivirus and disabling background syncing of OneDrive. My system became a lot more responsive just with these two steps.
I regularly defragment the hard disk (not SSDs though) and clear temp files using “Run > %temp%”. This alone helped reduce lag and system freezing in my case.

I changed my Windows theme to classic, reduced visual effects, and turned off transparency. It made a noticeable speed difference, especially on my older laptop with 4GB RAM.
